Meet Craig Berg

Craig Berg is a senior legal professional with more than 22 years’ experience advising institutional, corporate, and private clients on complex commercial and property matters. He is a qualified solicitor, conveyancer, and accredited mediator (Arbitration Foundation of South Africa).

Craig was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2003 after completing his LLB degree at the University of Johannesburg. He practised for 19 years at partner and managing partner level, initially at the established Johannesburg firm ODBB Inc., and subsequently as Managing Partner of Craig Berg Inc. & Associates. During this period, he acted for a wide range of prominent clients, international and national corporates, such as Growthpoint Properties Limited, Investec Property Fund, Accelerate Property Fund, and Redefine Property Fund listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. He also served as national attorney for Stage Zero a large manufacturer of green energy products in South Africa.

His practice focused primarily on dispute resolution, foreclosure, complex commercial contracts, and insolvency/business rescue advisory work. Craig has extensive litigation experience and has appeared before South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal on two occasions, recorded in the South African Law reports.

Craig is a published legal author and has written for De Rebus, South Africa’s national law magazine, on the benefits of mediation in commercial lease disputes (circa 2016).

Craig emigrated to NZ in late 2023 and is currently completing the requirements set by the New Zealand Law Society (NZLS) to enable his admission to the New Zealand Bar.

Outside of work Craig loves spending time with family and finds, attending sports and music events, training in the gym and golfing when he gets the chance.
